Why Responsive?

One question I have gotten so far has been “Why Responsive”?

I felt it might be worth it to explain the choice behind the name.

I had been looking for a name that really described my approach towards nutrition and how I want my clients to feel about nutrition when they work with me on their nutrition journey and beyond. I brainstormed, I looked at silly acronyms  and spellings using my name (B(e) Well(s) nutrition anyone?) and nothing stood out. Then I started looking around at what others had chosen for their business names, I looked at potential available domains, business name “scramblers” that helped you choose a name. I had no idea there are entire businesses dedicated to purchasing domains and essentially coming up with a package for you to purchase. Even ResponsiveNutrition.com is available for a cool 20k (WOW), which is why I added in my LLC at the end.

Among all the scrambled words on the website (not unlike all the NOISE on the internet regarding nutrition), I came across the word responsive. Since I have essentially “gone back to school” as I dive deeper into sports nutrition, I have made it a habit of googling words to learn more about them. Disclaimer: while I guarantee you my work and dedication to you as a client will be top-notch, I’ll be honest, I have to work really hard when it comes to school work (Don’t worry- I was still at the top of my class!).

Anyway— As I searched “responsive” and opened dictionary/thesaurus.com it literally lit up my mind and my heart and it was everything. Active-Aware-Compassionate-Conscious-Receptive-Sensible. Yes! Yes! Yes! I feel like responsive hit the nail on the head in regards to how I want to convey nutrition to you:

ACTIVE: nutrition is an active state. We don’t find the perfect diet for us and run to the next checkbox never to look back again. Just like many things in life, what is working now likely will change related to SO many things: performance goals, health goals, life stage, in-season/off-season. Nutrition is flexible and ever-changing and we need to adapt and flex into that season of life. That is why its also important to be….

CONSCIOUS/AWARE: Not just having nutrition information that so many of us already possess but also bringing awareness to your body and mind- to be able to know when things are working and when it is time for a change and then knowing HOW to change them with the nutrition and behavioral knowledge you possess (here is where I really come in!).

RECEPTIVE/COMPASSIONATE/SENSIBLE: I will always come to our sessions with compassion, empathy, and a listening ear and encourage you to do the same for yourself. Many people believe that dietitians are here to be the food police, to punish, to take away and that is simply not the case. Through many years of counseling and coaching, I have learned this method of teaching is not helpful nor is it successful. I acknowledge that life is messy and want to help you meet your goals in a way that works for you, not at the expense of you. We work together to find a solution instead of me steamrolling you and taking on an “expert” role.

This all adds up to RESPONSIVE: I am here for YOU.

To help you define and achieve success at whatever life-stage you are in and putting you in the driver’s seat so our time together can serve you for years to come!
